Oakland Athletics Near Deal to Acquire Ben Zobrist and Yunel Escobar

Update: Rays have confirmed the Deal, and A’s have designated Andy Parrino to clear room on 40 man roster.

The Oakland Athletics are near acquiring Ben Zobrist and Yunel Escobar from the Rays.  The A’s will reportedly part with John Jaso C, and prospects Daniel Robertson SS, and Boog Powell CF.

Acquired

Ben Zobrist can play a variety of positions and had a 272/354/395 line in 2014, and was an above average defensive player and worth 5.7 wins above replacement level according to Fangraphs. He played 79 games at 2B, 2 at 3B, 31 at SS, and 64 in the OF.

Yunel Escobar is a SS was worth 0.2 wins above replacement and had a 258/324/340 slash line in 2014. He is considered a strong defender.

Traded

In addition to the more well known John Jaso who missed a lot of time with concussions the A’s traded:

Daniel Robertson SS was considered “the shortstop of the future” and hit 310/402/471 in Stockton and showed impressive pop with 37 doubles, 3 triples and 15 homers.

Boog Powell CF split 2014 between Cal Stockton High A and the Beloit Snappers Single A and had a 343/451/435 line with a 886 OPS. He hit 3 homers.
