Yunel Escobar Traded After 5 Days to Nationals for Tyler Clippard

The stay of Yunel Escobar on the Oakland Athletics was very short as the A’s traded SS Yunel Escobar to the Washington Nationals for right handed reliever, Tyler Clippard. Escobar who was acquired just 5 days ago in the Zobrist-Jaso-Robertson trade, had been a rumored target of the A’s several times over the years, with him multiple times expressing displeasure at the possibility.

In 2014, Clippard had a 2.18 ERA in 70.1 IP with 10.49 K/9 and 2.94 BB/9.  He only allowed 0.64 homers per 9 innings. He is on a 1 year $5.9 millon contract according to Fangraphs. Clippard will be in the mix as a setup man, and the trade clears an everyday role for Marcus Semien at SS, who was acquired in the Jeff Samardzija trade.
