Today’s A’s Notes for April 1st:
- A’s Reliever Sean Doolittle and his Girlfriend have pledged to buy any unwanted tickets for the first A’s LGBT or Pride night. In a funny letter written to season ticket holders that is available, here. Doolittle offers to purchase unwanted tickets and calls on others to join his quest and fill the stadium.
- Through SFGate’s Susan Slusser, Bob Melvin says Crisp felt some issues with his right elbow in a minor league camp game Slusser hinted that he sounds like a DL candidate to open the season.
- The Let Zito Pitch campaign took a serious hit yesterday, actually 3 bombs. He gave up three homers and four runs in the third inning and seven runs overall in four innings. Zito was always a long shot to make the roster simply based on the A’s pitching talent. While he had a 13 scoreless innings prior to yesterday, many of the games were against B squads or minor league squads. SFGate considers it a certainty and in an article discussing his outing said “Zito, who will not be on Oakland’s Opening Night roster.”
Bob Melvin commented on Zito’s outing:“He basically had one bad inning, and a pretty good spring,” manager Bob Melvin said. “He’s been terrific. You have to look at the entire body of work, not just one inning.”
Zito will travel with the team North for the Bay Bridge Series this weekend against the Giants, but beyond that his status is unknown.
